Our History
The Magic Chef name first appeared on a gas stove in 1929. Magic Chef founders designed it to be affordable for the average family while maintaining exceptional performance. This commitment sparked a legacy of excellence that lives on today.
Throughout the mid-20th century, Magic Chef expanded into new categories like refrigerators, washing machines, and electric ranges. Our early innovations included features like automatic oven lighting and porcelainized interiors. As times changed, we evolved too. In 1986, Magic Chef was acquired by Maytag. Together, we continued upholding rigorous quality testing and combining functional design with the latest technology. When Maytag was later acquired by Whirlpool, the Magic Chef brand joined Whirlpool’s impressive portfolio of home appliances.
After over 90 prolific years, Magic Chef returned to independent operation in 2016.
